The work of Honorary Consul is covering trade and cultural relations, consular issues and helping individual Finnish citizens in the area.
Being an engineer, M.Sc. from University of Technology in Finland, and working in manufacturing industry all over the world has made him to understand that good education is a basis for economic development and success in life. This has encouraged him to attend in school reform discussions by attending school reform forums and bring Education Specialists from Finland to Chicago. The educational issues have become a major component in cultural relations of his work after he was appointed as Honorary Consul of Finland in Chicago, IL in 2009.

Topic: Finnish education system for K-15 and best practices.
Finnish school system is not the best in the world but it is the best for Finnish children. The presentation is covering the background for a school reform in Finland, which has brought learning results of Finnish kids onto the world map. There is no silver bullet for success in education reform in Finland, but some issues will be brought up, which have had a major influence for success. Some of these issues are quite opposite compared those applied in the USA and which are often explained as no success in US reform because of diversity of the country. Is it really so? This presentation will enlighten these issues. They will give new fuel for school reform discussions.
